In this article we will be weighing up the Benefits of purchasing a used motorhome in seized auction or police auction as opposed to buying from a private buyer.

Firstly there are many more motorhomes available in private sales than in auctions, in fact it can be quite difficult to find a police auction or seized auction in your area as they are rarely publicized. Private sales can be found everywhere from the local press to the specialized motorhome publications and even on eBay.

You will have much more of a choice because of of this.

If you buy from a private seller then they will most likely answer any questions you have about the history of the vehicle and will probably even let you take it for a test drive. None of this you could do at an auction viewing.

The main advantage that an auction has over the private buyer is the ridiculously low prices that can be obtained. If you are lucky you could get a fantastic motorhome in great condition for as little as 10% of the book price.

Auctions need you take a lot of care when checking over the vehicles though. Just because it is a 'Police' auction doesn't mean that you can relax and drop your guard. The vehicles all have their history and some have even been off the road and in storage for years as court cases have been battling on. Auction vehicles in general tend to be in the auction for non-payment reasons.. not because it is worn out or because the owner has decided to get rid of the old vehicle for a newer model. Because of this there is more often than not nothing at all wrong with the vehicle and apart from getting a really good price you will also be getting a great motorhome.
